Teo Hoh Hwa founded Chop Guan Kee in 1943, starting with the production of green coffee beans in Sungai Pelek. Over the course of 80 years, the company has built a rich history and legacy. The name "Chop Guan Kee" is derived from the Chinese proverb “Yin Shui Si Yuan,” meaning to remember the root. This principle reflects the company’s dedication to honoring its roots while advancing in the coffee industry. Under the leadership of Teo Choon Fong, the second generation, the business expanded by roasting its own coffee and supplying it to coffee shops, ensuring that the tradition of making the finest Nanyang coffee was passed on to the next generation.
Today, the third generation, led by Teo Yu Yin, Teo Shao Hui, and Jerrine Teo, continues the family’s legacy by blending tradition with innovation. They have opened their first coffee shop in their hometown, maintaining the essence of the family’s traditional business while embracing modern trends. Chop Guan Kee is renowned for its use of Liberica coffee beans, known for their large size, unique flavor profile, and long-lasting aftertaste with notes of sweetness, fruitiness, chocolate, and a smoky aroma. The company oversees every step of the coffee-making process, from processing the coffee cherries to roasting, grinding, and packaging, ensuring the integrity and beauty of Liberica coffee is preserved in every cup served.
