Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) is a well known spice considered as ''The King of spices'' among various spices. It has a sharp and mildly spicy flavor that goes well with many dishes.
Black pepper is obtained from the small dried berries (peppercorns) of the vine Piper nigrum. Peppercorn berries are picked while still green, allowed to ferment, and are sun-dried until they shrivel and turn a brownish-black color. The outer layer of a dried black peppercorn (known as the “pericarp”) is dark brown/black and wrinkled in appearance. The inside part contains a large seed which is lighter in color.
